Thomas W. Burkart
Co-Owner & Supervising Attorney
With over 35 years of legal experience, Mr. Burkart has practiced across Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, representing clients in civil litigation, probate, estate planning, and corporate law. A former U.S. Army Reserve Captain in the Signal Corps (1982–1995), he was honorably discharged after more than a decade of service. He served as Special Public Defender for Madison County, Illinois and was the longtime Village Attorney for Hamel, Illinois. He is admitted to the Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, and Georgia Bars, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, the Federal District Court of Southern Illinois, and the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. A Distinguished Military Graduate of Xavier University and graduate of St. Louis University School of Law, Mr. Burkart now resides in Savannah, Georgia, where he is a member of the Savannah, Georgia, and Illinois State Bar Associations.
Karen Burkart
Co-Owner & Second Supervising Attorney
With decades of experience in both trial and appellate law, Mrs. Burkart has served as a Special Public Defender for Madison County and spent over a decade as a senior law clerk to Justice Charles Chapman of the Illinois 5th District Appellate Court. She is admitted to practice in Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, and the Federal District Court of Southern Illinois. An accomplished legal writer, she authored What Color is Your Clerkship and co-authored Sealed Out-of-Court Settlements: What’s a Judge to Do? She holds a B.A. magna cum laude from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and earned her J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law. In 2023, she joined her husband in their Georgia-based practice and is a member of both the Savannah and Illinois State Bar Associations.
