Victory for Property Owners against City Government

In a settlement agreement filed in federal court on June 22, 2017, the City of Hillsboro Illinois agreed to continue abiding by the terms of a 23-year-old lease agreement it had threatened to terminate on property on Glenn Shoals Lake. The suit was filed by Thomas and Karen Burkart. The suit claims that the city had violated the fifth and fourteenth amendments to the U.S. Constitution by depriving the defendant property owners of due process and their rights to private property.
